After a six-week break the LEDextra GT Cup returns to the charming Cheshire circuit of Oulton Park. The picturesque track with its sweeping turns, bumps and hollows will once again play host to some thunderous performance GT cars. On this front the GT Cup will not disappoint, with a near 30 car grid, the action is sure to be exciting.
The fastest machinery will be competing in the GTO group, which sees Chris and Ian Dockerill return in their Ferrari 430 Scuderia and Porsche GT3 R respectively. They will join Sean Wilder in his Ferrari 458 in taking on Kevin Riley in the monstrous Mosler and Nigel Mustill in his USA born Riley prototype track day car. The wild card in the pack will be Jordan Witt in his Chevron. Can he pull a surprise in the nimble GT3 machine?
Alex Martin in the bright yellow Dextra Ferrari 458 has been having a fantastic season to date with a number of class wins to his name. At Brands Hatch last time out he was able to add an overall win to his victory tally. This incredible run of form finds the ff Corse driver leading the championship overall by thirty-one points from team-mate and father Rupert. Alex's 458 sported an additional aero kit at Brands Hatch to help him stay on terms with the faster GTO category cars, it clearly worked for him but we'll have to wait and see if he retains it, and his form, for the rest of the season.
The GTB group is set to be one of the most hotly contested of all four categories racing with Dan Stringfellow's BMW and Chris Randell's Lotus Elise competing against no fewer than six Porsche GT3 Cup cars. Ian Loggie returns with Team Parker as does Mike Donovan with in2Racing to join regulars Mike Sellar, Darren Litten and the duo of Mark Smith and David Cuff. Making his 2013 series debut will be Carrera Cup racer Will Goff but with so many identical cars with talented drivers at the wheel, this group could just be the one to watch.
After wins at Brands Hatch Geoff Steel BMW driver Jeff Wyatt has started to assert is domination on the GTA group. He surely will not have it quite so easy this weekend however with twelve cars all competing for group honours. Ben Tompkins and Chris Bentley, second and third in the championship respectively, will be pushing him hard. Three Chevron GR8's will also be lining up against entries from Ginetta, BMW, Porsche, Lotus and Mazda so the racing is sure to be close and action packed."
